The Al Ain Air show

on February 05, 2014

I've never photographed an air show before but it has been something i'd wanted to try when the opportunity arose. This opportunity happened to arise early this year and i spent an enjoyable afternoon capturing images of the various aircraft in flight. It's great fun to do and certainly something I'd recommend.

I have to say photographing high speed planes was certainly much easier than a small bird in flight. The camera made my work easy to be honest and I was very pleased with the focussing abilities of the 1DX. This is the stuff it was designed for and I had a large subject to track. The variety of aircraft made it interesting as too the formation flying. The trick was trying to get a good enough resolution image using the 600mm handheld following the flight path but when they groups split up then I needed a wide angle.

I can't help but wonder why I had not taken an air show in sooner. They are such good family entertainment. The Al Ain air show normally follows the Dubai air show and at this time of year it is very pleasant to sit out and watch.
